Can art be a channel of understanding? Does it have a claim to truth, to knowledge? What comes first, understanding or knowing? Does art have a part to play in our processes of meaning-making? These are just some of the fascinating and stimulating questions explored in the video I share with you today.
It is part of the Closer To Truth project and a YouTube channel hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn. This episode comes from a playlist dedicated to the topic of arts and their role in our efforts to understand the world around us and ourselves in it. I selected this episode to share with you because it focuses on the question particularly close to my heart, the question of meaning.
One of the thinkers Kuhn interviews is Justin L. Barrett, a cognitive scientist and psychologist. His book “Cognitive Science, Religion, and Theology” has left a lasting impression on the way I think about our minds, beliefs, and the influence of our experience on our worldviews. I highly recommend it to all curious minds.

Keeping up the “Spreading the Word” tradition, I hope to share an insightful and thought-provoking article or video every weekend. I feel it is essential to care for our physical and mental well-being. Humans have always turned and returned to storytelling to find meaning. My weekends’ “Spreading the Word” posts are an online version of sharing meaningful stories.
keep exploring and storytelling!
