Spreading the Word: What Is True Cosmopolitan?

What does it mean to be cosmopolitan? The word literally translates as a citizen or resident of the world. The entire world. Is it possible to belong everywhere? Doesn’t that mean to belong nowhere? In today’s short and inspiring video, the author Elif Shafak talks about cosmopolitanism and how we all have multiple belongings shaping our identities. Philosophers suggested already some 2000 years ago that it is possible to belong both to the world and to your closest family, all at the same time: What Is A True Cosmopolitan? Enjoy!

Keeping up the “Spreading the Word” tradition, I hope to share an insightful and thought-provoking article, podcast episode or video every weekend. Humans have always turned and returned to storytelling to find meaning. My weekends’ “Spreading the Word” posts are an online version of sharing meaningful stories.

keep exploring and storytelling!
