When data is married to beautiful visualisation new and surprising insights can emerge. One great example of this is the Open Syllabus Project with their Galaxy visualisation of books and articles that are assigned as course readings across the globe. The fascinating thing is that you can see which works are assigned mostly in one field and which works, as it turns out, reflect interdisciplinary connections. For example, Plato’s The Republic appears as assigned reading in fields as diverse as fine arts, business, philosophy, and more. The visualised Galaxy works very much like Google Maps. Try it out (link below) and go on a journey full of curious discoveries.
Keeping up the “Spreading the Word” tradition, every weekend, I hope to share with you an article I’ve read or a video I’ve seen and considered to be inspiring and insightful. I feel it is important to take good care not just of our physical but also of our mental well-being. Humans have always turned and returned to storytelling. My weekends’ “Spreading the Word” articles are an online version of sharing worthwhile stories.
keep exploring and storytelling!
