Let’s do a thought experiment. What would happen if we interpreted our emotional, existential, identity crises as analogous to the physical and chemical process of decomposition? Could the rawness of our emotions and thoughts during these times be viewed as the raw material that we will eventually process into a new, transformed self?

Today I share an article that draws insightful parallels between our emotional worlds and the decomposition process in nature. For example, just as freezing temperatures slow down decomposition practically to a standstill, numbness halts the internal processing of feelings and thoughts. Stagnation is a state of blocked processes.

“To decompose is to become different. It’s a process that mirrors our emotional worlds. We recycle old versions of ourselves, integrating new experiences and then using those memories to transform into something new.”

Keeping up the “Spreading the Word” tradition, I hope to share an insightful and mind-broadening article, podcast episode or video every weekend. Humans have always turned and returned to storytelling to find meaning. My end-of-week “Spreading the Word” posts are an online sharing of meaningful stories.

keep exploring and storytelling!
